I hope everyone has had a relaxing, rejuvenating summer break! If I'm being completely honest, my favorite part of the summer season is catching up on my reading list and spending time with my dog, Banjo. That said, reality has set back, and my morning alarm clock made its grand return. I've been gradually dialing back my wake-up time each morning to get back into school-year mode. It’s a great trick to try at home right now, too, so our kids can hit the ground running and arrive on time without the morning rush!

Establishing that solid morning routine is so important because Minutes Matter. Every moment your child spends at school shapes their academic progress and social confidence. Arriving late means skipping key parts of their day, especially our Morning Meeting. That opening gathering is where we build community, set daily goals, and lay the groundwork for a successful school year. Beyond daily tardiness, our district is also putting a strong emphasis on curbing chronic absenteeism this year. A student enters the chronically absent category once they miss over 10% of the school year—and that calculation includes both excused and unexcused days. Missing that amount of instruction has a huge impact, and we want to work together to ensure every student stays on track.

To give your child the best possible start each day, timing is everything. Our school day officially begins at 7:30 AM, but we strongly encourage families to aim for a 7:15 AM arrival at the latest. Arriving around 7:15 AM ensures your student has plenty of time to head inside, grab a warm breakfast, visit with friends, and be seated in class by 7:30 AM without feeling rushed. Thank you so much for partnering with us to build great attendance habits, and I can't wait to welcome everyone back on August 6th!

We look forward to seeing our littlest learners this week. You will drop off and pick up your student in the carpool lane. Camp lasts the entire time - but don't worry, we have some paperwork for you to fill out to help pass the time.

This is your family's opportunity to meet your child's teacher, drop off school supplies, verify transportation, sign up for sports/activities, and have any questions answered.

Returning students ONLY will pick up their Chromebooks from last year's teacher and deliver it to his/her new classroom. New students and Kindergarteners will be delivered to student classrooms at a later date

Calling all Kindergarten families! While you are at "Meet the Teacher", swing by the playground from 12:30-1:30 to meet some of your new class friends. 

New Families: All students who are new to Jefferson County Public Schools must provide the following information to be included in the student's permanent record that is kept in the school office:

- Certified copy of your child's birth certificate, or other reliable proof of your child's identity and age submitted with an affidavit of the inability to produce a copy of the birth certificate

- Kentucky Immunization Certificate

- Kentucky Medical Examination Form

- Kentucky Eye Examination Form

- Kentucky Dental Examination Form

Transportation: If you have questions or changes, please reach out to the school. Please note, bus changes at this time will not take effect immediately. If your child will normally be a bus rider, it is very important that they ride the bus on the first day of school to receive an identification tag and learn about bus procedures. Also, students in grades K-2 should have their name and contact information inside their backpacks.

Bus Stops: This information will go live on July 27th. Please see information below about installing the new app to follow the bus!

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is making the school commute easier and more transparent for families. Starting in the 2026-27 school year, JCPS is introducing My Ride K-12, a parent communication app that gives students and guardians access to bus locations and arrival times.

Using real-time GPS, the app provides accurate ETAs so you know exactly when to head to the bus stop.

Information about class placement will be available in Infinite Campus right before Meet the Teacher. You can also find out at Meet the Teacher. 

Carpool closes at 7:28. At that time, cars will be directed to park in the front parking lot or in the spaces right before the bus circle. Families must walk their student into the building and sign in.

Please remember:

- No traffic other than JCPS vehicles may pull into the bus circle. Please mind the barricades.

- Do not send your child up on their own - you must walk and sign them in.

- Only staff are allowed to park in the side lot to the right of the school that is past the bus circle.

Thank you for helping our carpool run smoothly! I know that it is frustrating when we stop admitting cars, however the staff working carpool need to be at other posts at 7:30.
