Our first two days of school were a smashing success! It was incredible to see our halls buzzing with energy as students were warmly welcomed, engaged in their classrooms, made new friends, and learned the ropes of the school.

We know the carpool line was a bit long—thank you so much for your patience! Please rest assured that as everyone gets into the routine, it will get better and move much faster.

This year is going to be an amazing one where everyone WINS—our families, our students, and Wilder! Thank you for your incredible partnership, and we can’t wait for the great week ahead.

We are thrilled to unveil our newly updated lobby! Designed to be a fresh, vibrant, and warm space for our whole community, the refreshed layout features expanded seating and a versatile, flexible workspace specifically created for pulling small student groups. We’ve also added comfortable seating in the vestibule so waiting parents have a cozy spot to relax. And never fear—Ms. Frederick is still here! While her spot has shifted to the front office.

As we settle into the new school year, we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone for your patience and flexibility. We have a significantly larger number of car riders this year, which means working together as a team is more important than ever to keep our students safe and traffic moving!

Please take a moment to review these crucial guidelines for morning arrival and afternoon dismissal:

Morning Arrival Tips

To ensure every student gets into the building safely and on time, please help us with the following:

Pull All the Way Up: Drive past the library doors and pull all the way to the first parking space in the back. Stopping early creates a bottleneck behind you.

Close the Gaps: Please pull up close to the car ahead of you. Eliminating gaps keeps the line moving and prevents traffic from backing up onto Herr Lane.

Be Backpack Ready: Have your child’s backpack, jacket, lunchbox, and water bottle ready to go before you reach the unloading zone so they can exit the vehicle quickly and safely.

7:28 AM Carpool Cutoff: Beginning Monday, August 10th, we will begin shutting down the carpool line at 7:28 AM.

Why the strict time? School starts promptly at 7:30 AM, and our morning duty staff need to head inside to their classrooms to teach! We know arriving late or being redirected can be frustrating, but if you arrive at or after 7:28 AM, you will be directed to park and walk your student into the main office. We want all students seated and ready to learn right at 7:30 AM.

Reminders & Rules

Staff Lot Off-Limits: The side parking lot is strictly reserved for staff. Parents may not use the staff lot for dropping off or picking up students at any time.

Early Pick-Up Cutoff (1:50 PM – 2:20 PM): No students will be dismissed from the building between 1:50 PM and 2:20 PM. If you arrive during this window, you will need to wait until all buses have departed and afternoon carpool has finished before picking up your student.

Exiting Carpool: You must turn RIGHT!

We need your help keeping our school secure!

While holding the door open for someone behind you is second nature, we kindly ask that you do not allow anyone to walk in behind you when you are buzzed into the building. It might feel a little awkward to let the door close on someone, but our security protocols require us to identify and verify every single person before they enter.

How You Can Help Keep Our Building Secure:

One Entry at a Time: Please enter promptly after being buzzed in and let the heavy door close completely behind you.

Kindly Direct Others to the Buzzer: If someone is walking up behind you—even a familiar face—politely let them know to press the call button so the office can check them in.

Don't Take It Personally: If another parent allows the door to close in front of you, know they are following our safety rules to protect everyone’s children.

Remember: Good manners are wonderful, but student safety comes first.

We would love to encourage more people to join us this year and will have a Kids' Cove set up with different activities (coloring, puzzles, legos, etc). Did your student receive a math manipulative kit in a plastic bag at the Meet & Greet? If so, Ms. Bowles in the library would love to take those bags off your hands! Passing them along to the library is a fantastic way to recycle, and Ms. Bowles uses these durable bags to protect and store library books for our youngest readers.

If you still have yours, please feel free to send it to school with your child to drop off in the library. Thank you for helping us keep our fabulous book collection safe and organized!

Save time and skip the paperwork! Families can always complete all necessary forms quickly and easily online through the JCPS digital portal. If you have already submitted your forms digitally, there is no need to fill out or return the paper copies sent home with your student.
