A Note from the Principal

picture of Mrs. Sampson, the principal

Good morning, Southern Families! We have settled back in well after Spring Break, and time is FLYING! We now have only 5 weeks left in the school year, and only 2 weeks until our annual KSA testing. Teachers are really ramping up academic vocabulary review as we lead into testing to ensure our students are prepared, ready, and remembering their learning from the year. Please encourage your students to do their absolute best on their tests on May 5-7. Their results, while they don't directly impact their grades, do have significant impacts on our school, our programming, and our trajectory in the coming years. Thanks for partnering with us in the coming weeks!

Trojan Motivational Tip: -“If you want to do this, if you want to play big, if you want to really impact lives, you’ve got to face yourself. You’ve got to be courageous and willing to go all in and address everything about you that is uncomfortable.” - Harry Lopez

Principal's Shout Out

This week, I'd like to recognize our Band Director, Mr. Charles Stewart. While Mr. Stewart only joined Southern HS this year, he has hit the ground running, and has already created an incredible band culture for our students. His students are winning awards, being invited to participate on a national stage, and he is truly Leading Like a Trojan. Thank you, Mr. Stewart, for all you do every day!

Governors Scholars Program Recipients

Southern is proud to announce that Hellena Chiza and Regen Dulal have been selected as Governor's Scholar Recipients for the 2026 summer program. Selena Avila and James Payne were selected as alternates. In order to be selected, students must complete a rigorous application process and compete with others from across the state. Those selected attend the program free of charge in the summer.  We know these students will represent our school well.

3rd Annual Poetry Contest
