February Edition 2026

Message from the Prinicpal

Dear Minors Lane Elementary Families,

As we step into the month of February, I want to take a moment to celebrate and reflect on the important work happening in our Minors Lane Elementary school community. February is Black History Month, a time for us to honor the rich history, contributions, and achievements of Black Americans. Throughout the month, our scholars will engage in learning experiences that celebrate culture, leadership, resilience, and excellence.

I also want to recognize our Multilingual Learners for successfully wrapping up ACCESS testing. Our students worked extremely hard, demonstrated perseverance, and showed great focus throughout the testing window. We are incredibly proud of their efforts.

We are now more than halfway through the school year, and I want to sincerely thank our families for your patience and flexibility as we navigated winter weather and transitions between NTI and in-person learning. Your support helped make these transitions as seamless as possible for our students. I am hopeful that we can continue the remainder of the school year in person without additional inclement weather interruptions.

February is a short but busy month, and continued learning at home is essential. Please continue to:Encourage your child to read 15–20 minutes each night. Practice math facts to build fluency. Use Lexia and Amplify on their Chromebook for additional reading and math practice

We are still seeking two parent representatives to join our Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council. As a council member, you will help establish school policies and procedures and assist in making important schoolwide decisions. Parent voices truly matter. If you are interested, please contact me at 502-200-9441 and ask for Mr. Wales.

Lastly, attendance is critical to student success. Unless your child is sick, we want our scholars at school every day, ready to learn. Please continue to reinforce positive behavior by encouraging your child to follow the Mustang Way—making respectful, responsible, and safe choices.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we will continue to help our scholars grow and succeed.

As we honor Black History Month, I leave you with this reminder:

“Family and school together can create a foundation strong enough for any child to succeed.”

“It takes a village to raise a child.”

— African Proverb

Thank you for being an essential part of our village.

With appreciation,

Mr. Wales

Principal, Minors Lane Elementary
