Dear Farnsley Middle School Families,

Welcome to a new school year! I hope you and your family had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. We are excited to see our students back in the halls of Farnsley Middle, and we are eager to begin another year of growth, learning, and success.

As always, our goal is to provide a positive, supportive environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We have some exciting new updates this year, including new courses, extracurricular activities, and, of course, some important updates on school regulations.

Important Update on KRS Regulation: Moment of Silence
I would like to inform you about a new regulation that will be implemented this year at Farnsley Middle School, in accordance with Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 158.175. Starting this school year, all schools will observe a Moment of Silence or Moment of Reflection each day following our morning announcements. This moment will take place at the beginning of the first class each day.

Here’s what you need to know about this regulation:

  • Students will remain seated and silent during the moment of silence, making no distracting displays.

  • Students are free to use this time in whichever way they choose—whether to meditate, pray, reflect, or engage in any other silent activity that does not disturb or interfere with the choices of others.

  • Teachers and staff will not provide instruction or guidance regarding how students should use this time.

It is our intention that this moment provides every student with the opportunity to engage in quiet reflection, whichever way they feel most comfortable.

Guidance for Families
I encourage parents and guardians to review the guidelines above and have a conversation with your child about how they can make the most of the Moment of Silence in a respectful and thoughtful manner. As always, we are here to support all students in their journey to understand and navigate important values such as respect for personal choice and individuality.

We are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead filled with exciting opportunities, meaningful learning experiences, and a continued commitment to the well-being of all our students. Take a look below for some upcoming important registration dates taking place next week.

Thank you for your continued support of Farnsley Middle School. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need further clarification.

Sincerely,
Carolyn B Smith
Principal, Farnsley Middle School
